A piece of furniture that defies definition. Hommage 1 is art turned from 2D to 3D. Inspired by a sketch by Picasso, a piece emerged that moves between sculpture and function – spatial art. It is a dialogue between art forms, between craftsmanship, art history and spatial aesthetics.
Hommage 1 ist kein Beiwerk, sondern ein bewusster Akzent: skulptural genug, um Aufmerksamkeit zu fordern, zurückhaltend genug, um Architektur atmen zu lassen. In klaren, offenen Räumen entfaltet es seine Ruhe. In dichten, komplexen Umgebungen setzt es einen Kontrastpunkt. Hommage 1 eignet sich für Räume, die mehr können als nur „funktionieren“. Als Teil einer Einrichtung oder als Einzelelement: dieses Möbel verändert nicht den Grundriss, aber es verändert den Charakter eines Raumes.
Dieses Objekt steht für Räume, die sich bewusst positionieren, als Ausdruck eines kuratierten Lebensstils, in dem man Kunst nicht nur betrachtet, sondern integriert. Wer sich mit Hommage 1 umgibt, entscheidet sich für eine Haltung, die Tiefe, Materialität und Idee verbindet. Ein Statement im Raum. Egal ob Wohn- oder Arbeitsraum. Ein leises, aber unverkennbares Zeugnis an eine Haltung, die sich abhebt.
This work is the result of a long-held vision. Thirty years ago, Clemens Beck came across a rather unknown, cubist drawing by Picasso in an art book. He recognized in it not only an artistic gesture, but the clear structure of a furniture sculpture. In a sense, he thought of a reversal of Cubism and developed a sketch that brought the forms back into three dimensions, combining them with his artistic idea of restraint – the trust that the quality of a piece emerges from reduction. The sketch was unfortunately lost among many other ideas.
Now, 30 years later in the context of founding label raum, Clemens rediscovered the sketch in a pile of drafts. The right moment meets the right idea. Decades after the first idea, his artistic vision is clearer than ever and quickly takes shape. A clear geometry that creates forms moving boldly between design and art. The color white as a deliberate restraint, to give form and space more presence. Craft precision combined with an open, almost playful approach to perspective and balance. Thus Hommage 1 came into being: A piece of furniture that is art. A work of art that is furniture.
